The life of Rosa Parks by Gillia M. Olson review
--
Olson’s book is a beautiful way to help children learn about an iconic woman in history. This book is a children’s biography on one of the most influential women in the civil rights movement, Rosa Parks. It chronicles her birth until her death going into detail the different important parts of her life. It also talks about how these different parts of her life influenced her decision to be a civil rights activist. There is more information in the book than in a typical school textbook. It also has real-life pictures for the illustrations which bring such depth to the information and to the history that was being made. This book can spark a child’s interest in volunteering and being an activist. It also brings more information about the time of the civil rights movement that may not be learned before reading it. A must for any library!
