This is one of the most inspiring women in history that children can read about! Writing a book about our history and individuals that are not always taught in school is a wonderful way to help children learn. This book is about a woman and the accomplishments she made that led her to win the congressional gold medal of honor from President Barack Obama. Being a woman of Mexican descent it was not easy for Dolores Huertas growing up. She advocated for equal pay for farmers and started two different unions that ensure they were paid well and equally. This book talks about that and her accomplishments in women and equal rights in a way that any child can understand. It comes with real-life pictures that make this book even more powerful. This book is an inspiration to all children and especially women. At the end are resources to learn more and the website for her foundation that was started to teach others to become leaders in their community. A powerful and inspiring biography!
