Sometimes it is easier to write into a story the truth of what others have been through. This is a book that showcases the hardships and perseverance of students in Venezuela. It starts off discussing the beauty that was once was growing up there. Then it starts to talk about how things began to change and become very difficult for the families in the country. Due issues the children had to change the school they were going to. The children had to walk far and cross a border. The narrators found a way to make it easier by using a bike and getting to know the guards at the border bridge. However, when the bridge closes, they are left to find a different, more difficult way to cross. Determined, the two siblings make sure to continue their studies despite challenges and bullying from the other students. They discuss their dreams for when they graduate and hopes that one day their country will be the beautiful place it once was. This is a book that can help children and adults understand the differences that families face in other countries. It is an inspiring story full of hope and determination that can lead to others to want to help or continue to on their own difficult journey.
