When a family has a pet whether it be a dog, cat or lizard etc. it can be difficult for a child when it is the pets time to move on from this world. Having a book to discuss this next phase in life is something that can be helpful. This book starts off talking about a wonderful bond between an owner and their dog. It showcases the close relationship a child can have with their pet. Then it discusses how when the pet became older the dog began to slow down and their behaviors changed. It is great to see this put in a book as this is a natural evolution and something that can help the reader with understanding better. Then it begins to discuss how after a vet trip it became clear the pet would need to move on to the rainbow bridge. It also discusses how the child is upset and having difficulty understanding this. The way the author explains how the child is shown to understand is something that can be very powerful for another child that is having to learn and go through the same thing. Books can be something that is relatable for children and through their words comfort and understanding can come. The illustrations are simple as is the story making it perfect for a family to help their child through a period like this.
