This is a wonderful book about learning how to be friends and that being different is ok. It starts off talking about Ezra and showing how he likes to make everything extra by adding something in he feels is special. He does not care if what he thinks is special is different or if anyone else does not think so. He is a character that will be inspiring for all children. Then a new girl comes to the school and he tries to become friends but she does not want to be and is sad. In talking to his mom he learns that even though he feels being extra is good sometimes a person needs to think of what their friend wants and feels is extra. Ezra finds a beautiful way to respect the new girl and become her friend. This is a beautiful way to encourage children to look beyond the differences and always find a way. It also shows that being different is wonderful and it should not matter if the person is extra, everyone is beautiful in their view of enjoying life.
